  • Porath Sensei Class D Instructor with the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF), an international organization with almost 60,000 members in 60 countries world-wide.

  • Born in Canada, Porath Sensei started his karate training at the age of 8 in his home town of Winnipeg.

  • Armed with an eagerness to learn and fierce determination, Porath Sensei enrolled as a student of the Manitoba ISKF/JKA headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

  • It was at a karate seminar in Winnipeg that he met his first mentor, Master Teruyuki Okazaki (10th Dan, retired in 2017 at the age of 86) and Master Yutaka Yaguchi (9th Dan, retired in 2017 at the age of 84).

  • Master Okazaki developed the “Instructor Training Program” currently utilized by Shotokan Karate organizations around the world.

  • Porath Sensei, also completed the ISKF Instructor Training Program to become a Certified Instructor, which designation is recognized by Shotokan Karate organizations world-wide. As part of his 20 years of preparation for his Instructor Certification, he wrote 43 papers outlining several aspects of karate, including karate techniques (blocks, strikes, etc.) as well as scientific elements of Karate including “Kinesiology & Ergonomics of Motion”, “Student Safety in the Dojo” and the “Difference Between Sport & Martial Art”.

Sempai Sofia began her training in 1993 as a self-defence student at the age of 23. Lawyer by day and karate student by evening, Sofia has since practiced the art of traditional Shotokan Karate with the International Shotokan Karate Federation, since the beginning of her training. She has been selected to represent Manitoba at the ISKF Canadian National Tournament for more than a decade and after several first place finishes, was selected to represent Canada at the Pan American Tournament winning a bronze and silver medal in Panama City, Panama in 2018. Sofia continues to compete regionally and nationally in her drive to strengthen her karate skills. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the International Shotokan Karate Federation of Canada as its Arbitrator and is legal counsel to ISKF Manitoba.
